Well it is found in a path like this? c:\program files\cyberlink\powerdvd8\evoparser\clupdater.exe First thing I do in cases like this is find it with a file finder utility. Once found, I would rename it to say with a *.ex extension. Sometimes I add .DEL to the filename so I can search them later and delete them if I learn I don't need them. That should stop it from running when you reboot. If it won't let you rename it, try under safe mode. Or run another OS and rename it that way. Now reboot and report back if it is gone or not. You might be done at this point depending on what happens. -- Bill Asus EEE PC 8GB 1GB SoDIMM Adata 16GB Windows XP SP2 and Xandros Linux |

| Re: Craigs List Adrian C, You may be correct on that. Someone posted a message I missed or that showed up after mine a location of this program in Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 in a folder I don't have in my version. So, I might humbly concede my potential error. Also, since there are some parts of the program with similar spellings beginning with capital letters in the same fashion, I could even more easily stand corrected on this matter, especially since there is a poster in the cyberlink forum who refers to CLUpdater starting when he failed to get another cyberlink program called, "Power2Go" to work properly. The link to which this refers is as follows: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/2643.page Now, that said, I have done even further research by googling "CLUpdater" and found the most relevant hits relating to the Craig's List widget. I found no references to any of Cyberlink's software until 6 pages into the Google search results which was a certification of cleanliness by McAfee Site Advisor for Cyberlink.com. So it seems that the assumptions that this program is either a part of a Cyberlink program or the Craig's List widget which just happens to be named "CLUpdater" can both be considered correct until MI-5 3/4 is able to identify the program by verifying its location and how it loads itself. The best way to find this out is for MI-5 3/4 to do a search on the computer in question for "CLUpdater" or "clupdater" to see where it is located. Then follow the proper instructions for disabling or removal of this program. So, once again, I ask that MI-5 3/4 review my previous post to find a way within PowerDVD to disable the "update" software. If it is another Cyberlink program that uses this updating program, then I suggest looking for a way to disable this program within that software in a similar way. If that is difficult to do, go to the Cyberlink website and post a question on how to eliminate or disable this program. If on the other hand it is a Craig's List widget that got installed by accident, it should easily be removed by the method I also outlined in my previous post. -- Again, I hope this helps, good luck. CLUpdater.exe is not present on the machine, unless, as I have said, it is cloaked. It did occur to me that something else may auto download it and then run it. AFAICT, Craig's List itself is not present on the machine, unless it lodges itself where I haven't looked (always a possibility). |

I have to confess that I hadn't made the connection between CLUpdater.exe and CyberLinkUpdater as all the google info poined the finger firmly at Craig's List. I did a search last night in response to another suggestion for the actual CLUpdater.exe file, but drew a blank. It is either not there or cloaked. It did occur to me that CLUpdater.exe could be downloaded as required by something in the Cyberlink suite. If it is Cyberlink that is doing this, then I can probably accept it, but what could it possibly be updating that takes over 2 hours on a broadband link? BTW, I have PowerDVD V7 on this machine. I have another issue with PowerDVD in that when you play DVDs with surround sound tracks, the sound only comes from the front two speakers. But when you play a Blu-ray disc, the sound correctly comes from all 5 speakers. A question to Cyberlink has been ignored. |

| Re: Craigs List Hello, Is this program starting up even when you don't use PowerDVD 7? Do you have other Cyberlink programs on your computer? If so, try disabling the update function in all of them and see if that helps. As far as your problem with your sound, I will try to do some research and get back to you on that. Is it starting randomly? Try Swifty's suggestion and download process explorer or go to http://www.winpatrol.com/ and download this free program. Either program should help you find the necessary information you need to discover the actual location of this program and how it works. Also, is there a program in your "Startup" section of msconfig called "PCMService"? If so, try disabling it and see if that helps. Also, try your search again, but choose "More advanced options" and check all of the first three choices that will allow you to search hidden and system files. -- I hope this helps, good luck. | Re: Craigs List One more thing I forgot in the last post, do you have a timeline as to when this first began? If you have System Restore enabled, you may be able to restore to a point before this started and be rid of it then, . . . hopefully. If you have to reinstall anything, watch close to see if any of them offer this updater as an optional install and uncheck it. If anyone else besides you uses this computer, check your browsing history to see if anyone has been to Craig's List recently or if they might have installed the program. If you have a firewall and you have the ability to configure permissions for each program on your computer, then you may be able to stop it from running using the firewall's settings. I believe that you are getting sidetracked associating CLUpdater.exe with Craigslist, googleing this I also found a ref: to Cyberlink which is powerDVD. If you have this installed, in PowerDVD perhaps you can turn off the update feature. This is off topic but I found it interesting.(I saw this on headline news). About a month ago a bank robber (can't remember which state it was in) put an add in Craigslist for manual labor, basicly he wanted six people to show up at such and such corner at a certain time dressed alike just as he was making his exit from the bank, the cops didn't know who to go after. -- Mike Pawlak |
