| White Square on Screen When Booting Into Windows WXP Pro SP2 - I get a patch 4x5" on my screen just before my Settings start to load. On two occasions I've seen a file name in the top border: C:\Windows\System32\Mui\0816\XPOB2RES.DLL and Nbr 0411. I click OK and go into W as if nothing happened. These files are in C:\W\Service PackFiles\i386 and under C:\W\System32 There's many all with different nbrs. I'm assuming these two files (maybe more) have become corrupt - I did lose my e Exe, Lnk and Reg associations but it's fixed now. (I hope) - I was going to replace these two with fresh files but ... I better get some advice first. Do these files have anything to do with my Screen/Video card as they appear when the colour appears. any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx ... |

That's definitely a Windows XP file. Usually it's located in the System32 folder, but "mui" is apparently "Multiple User Interface", so from what I see, it would make sense for it to exist there also. It appears to be used by a LOT of different things, so initially it looks OK to be there. Do a Google Search for "XPOB2RES.DLL" if you'd like to read about some of the things it's used for. It -could- be part of a spyware or trojan, I guess, but ... I wasn't able to locate anything that indicated its use for such. To be on the safe side, unless you can determine you know it's OK to be running, I'd do an antivirus scan and run at least three spyware detectors on your machine. Be certain to check for updates to ALL of those before running them; things are changine all the time. HTH Pop` |

| Re: White Square on Screen When Booting Into Windows Hi Poprevit, nice of u to reply. MUI I found in THIS instance accrding to the MSKB is "Multilingual User Interface" I have ran Zone Alarm and Ad-Aware Pro - Nothing found by Zone Alarm and Ad-Aware found one Class 3 (non threatening) file. Also JV Power Tools, Registry Mechanic, EasyCleaner, Windows Registry Repair Pro and IE\Properties to get rid of TIF/Temp files. ... it 'appears' I'm clean. Maybe not but I haven't got anything else to run. Any suggestions? There are 3 related files - MS says u need all three which I do have. I read about it this morning but I found it confusing so I still don't know what to do about my problem. It seems it can pertain to the Network but I'm not on a Network. I did install MS Network Wizard but have yet to attach my Laptop to it. XPSP2RES.DLL I have 27 XPSP1RES.DLL I have 34 XPOB2RES.DLL I have 27 I rather felt I was hit by Malware as my file Associations fell apart - twice now but nothing showed up in the Scans. I do notice my Outlook email is or was super sluggish when typing, the words didn''t always appear right away but that too seems to have cleared up in the last few hrs. Cripes, there's always something to "fix" in a computer. You barely get 24 hrs between things to check, do or fix. ...
