System Restore fails

I am running WXP SP2 on a laptop. When I have occasion to reboot, I sometimes
get an error message on closing, which disappears too fast for me to read.
But I think it has something to do with System Restore, because very recently
I have tried to use SR and it has more than once informed me that SR is
impossible to restore. I recently upgraded to Windows Explorer 7. Could this
be a problem? WE 7 certainly mucked up my Hewlett Packard Director. Does
anyone know if there is any connection between this and SR?

Or is there some general SR solution I should be addressing? I think SR is
one of the great reasons for having XP and not to have it working is a great
burden.

If my problem resonates with anyone I should be very grateful for any
heplful response

There is no Windows Explorer 7, there is Internet Explorer 7. See Bert
Kinney's System Restore page for troubleshooting tips for System Restore.
Also look in Event Viewer in the System and Application logs for any related
messages / errors.
