| media for Toshiba laptop We recently purchased 8 Toshiba laptops for training classes that we are conducting, a huge mistake on our part. When we get computers from more reputable companies, we typically blow away the setup that comes with the computer and rebuild them to suit our needs using the media sent with the computers. Toshiba sent no media and will only provide an image of the operating system with all of the Toshiba software, AOL software, games, etc. I'm concerned the disks we have on hand will not allow me to use them on a computer other than the one they shipped with. I would like to either use an operating system disk we have on hand, or purchase the Windows XP Professional SP2 media from Microsoft. Is it possible to use my exisiting media to reload? Will Microsoft sell me a media disk? Toshiba tells me to contact Microsoft. Microsoft tells me to contact Toshiba. I'm asking you. Can anyone help. I'd appreciate it. |

| RE: media for Toshiba laptop You can use your current media if it is the same type of operating system. The OS on the Toshiba laptops would be OEM versions of XP wether it be Pro, Home, or Media Center. If you have an OEM disc with the same version (i.e. - XP Pro) then you can use it on the laptops. | Re: media for Toshiba laptop Microsoft will not sell you just the CD since you have OEM Windows XP. Toshiba apparently only has the media in only one form thus the referral to Microsoft. The only way Microsoft can help is if you decide to purchase Windows XP Retail. A retail Windows XP CD will not work with the OEM Product Key affixed to the bottom of the Toshiba laptop. A generic OEM Windows XP CD may work with the Product Key affixed to the laptop but they still have to match versions, Windows XP Home, Professional etc. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "jfmoyn" <jfmoyn@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:82BE298D-2B94-4EF6-99D3-6E9893A7C65B@microsoft.com... > We recently purchased 8 Toshiba laptops for training classes that we are > conducting, a huge mistake on our part. | Re: media for Toshiba laptop Almost all large OEM suppliers, Dell/HP/Gateway/Sony etc etc supply either recovery disks or a recovery partition which puts the sys back to its original supplied configuration. Its nothing to do with 'reputable companies' If you want a virgin installation you will have to buy retail editions, or a multi user licence, of windows. Or learn how to remove the crud.
