Folder views in Windows Explorer

My preferred folder view in Windows Explorer is "List." However, although
there is a specific procedure designed to keep that view for all folders, it
does not work properly. In particular, the folder "My Pictures" and all the
subfolders within it are the main culprits: they absolutely insist on the
"Thumbnail" view. I go to "Tools > Folder Options > View" after setting the
desired "List" option, then click "Apply to all folders." Unfortunately,
sometimes immediately, sometimes in a day or two, the **** thing reverts to
its own preferred "Thumbnails" view. I hate it! I have a program to view
thumbnails in, and in Windows Explorer I want a list. Some of my folders
have 2,000+ images, and I want to see a short alphabetized list of them, not
a procession of thumbnails requiring endless scrolling.

Even worse is that some of the Explorer style dialogs, such as "Open,"
"Save," "Attach file," etc. etc., also come up with thumbnails, again,
particularly when I am working within the "My Pictures" folder. And they
even taunt me by displaying across the top the word "Unspecified." IT IS NOT
UNSPECIFIED! I specify it time and time again, but Windows simply ignores my
specifications. Is there a fix through registry editing? Thanks for your
help!

Line 2. Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000

The My Pictures folder is a unique folder and you can't change its type,
but right-click any sub-folder, click Properties, Customize tab, and
change the folder type to "Documents (for any file type)". Click "Also
apply this template to any sub-folders".

Thank you for your reply. Doing the above does nothing to correct the
stituation I wrote about. The result is the same as with "Tools > Folder
Options > View" - namely, the view reverts back to "Thumbnails." But the
most annoying thing is the view of the Explorer-like dialog boxes, which
come up in the "Thumbnails" view. It seems to me that there has to be a
registry entry which forces that view. Does anyone know what and where it is
and how it can be changed? Thanks!
