Windows XP Pro SP2 second edition

Some time this past summer or fall one of the Windows Updates was Windows
Search Service. I probably didn't give enough time to get used to it, but it
was very annoying (the annoyance to me was the disorganized labels where we
put in our options for a search, for instance, the first label was "From:" I
still don't know what I'm supposed to put in that space. I finally opted
each time to let the old default search module find what I wanted. I have
always used the old search module a lot.

Anyway, I uninstalled Windows Search, because the description in Services
says if Windows Search is stopped or disabled, the search in Explorer will
fall back to item-by item slow search.

With Windows Search uninstalled, when I want to search on my computer, the
search column is in the style of the new Windows Search Service (the forms
blocks are there, but there is no text. And there is no option to click
into the item-by-item slow search, as the Services description says we will
be able to do.

In Services right now, Windows Search's startup type is Automatic. The
service status says Stopped. Indexing Service (original indexer) is set to
Manual, but does not say it is started.

(1) Is there a procedure I can do to get back the original search engine?
(like Starting the old Indexing Service)

(2) Or am I to just download and install Windows Search for XP SP2?

Event viewer is complaining it cannot find Windows Search (of course); There
are three items for each complaint: Information; Error; and Warning (local
computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL
files to display messages from a remote computer .

I did download the Microsoft Cleanup Utility, but before I ran it, I began
to think better of my attitude about Windows Search. So I went to find and
install it. It actually put a search window on the task bar that I didn't
get the first time. Also, it now shows up again in my regular Explorer
searches query window, and the puppy has come back to go fetch what I want
if I need him. In the process, the message was that this version was an
updated one and I noticed (Event Viewer) they also sent me 3 NT Service Pack
Hotfixes that go with it.

I let the indexer run until it was through this morning before I used it.
WS told me it couldn't search my email - and it can't find anything in the
Windows folder, in fact, it can't find the Windows folder. What am I
missing? I just asked for (example) propsys.dll, and getting no result,
Windows Search tells me to "ask the puppy."

From my perspective it's still a convoluted tool, and all I get with the
HELP button is my Windows version. Is there a Help File? and if there is,
how do I access it? I just reread this note and it looks like a rant, so
I'm sorry about that.

I finally found the Help files: for anyone else like me, Start > Search >
Open the search workspace quite wide. It is the last item on the blue bar's
right side
