Windows Defender didn't install properly

I'm running XP SP3 and just installed the latest version of Windows
Defender, at least, I think I did. I can't find it anywhere on
machine. There is no folder for it in the "All Programs" list and I
don't see it in the Add/Remove Program list of Control Panel. Yet, if
I try to install it again, it says the latest version is already
installed. How do I know the app is installed and how do I start it.
I'm NOT running Windows Live OneCare.

What problems are you having that led you to install Defender?

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender support
and comments. See
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...s/default.mspx

TIP: Access these newsgroups using your default newsreader, not your
browser. See instructions on above page.

Re: Windows Defender didn't install properly

Saw it mentioned in an article and though I'd give it a try. I'm
using Spybot S&D, but wanted to see what Defender had to offer. Now,
from what I read, it's really sort of useless, so now I just want to
get any pieces that may have been installed, off my machine.

Re: Windows Defender didn't install properly

Were the Spybot Residents SDHelper and Tea Timer enabled when you installed
Defender?

No, only my anti-virus AVG and Comodo Fire wall were running at the
time, neither of which has ever caused me a problem when installing
software before.
