| CD/DVD w/ .EXE on root... files not available Hey Gang, I'll be visiting relatives next week and one tells me she has this strange problem with her CD/DVD drives and asks if I know an answer. As she describes it, on both of her XP desktops but not her Vista laptop, if she inserts a CD or DVD that has an EXE file on the root, it not only does not autorun when it's supposed to, the entire contents are invisible and inaccessible in Windows Explorer. She says it's been this way for a long time. I know about the EXE file association fix and I'll of course run that, but I have a suspicion it's not the problem. What I suspect is some rogue security app. Does that strike anyone as something you've seen before? I know I have a lot more diagnostic steps to perform -- the lady finds telephone tech assistance much to bothersome -- but if anyone here can provide a nice, neat shortcut, it sure would make my trip a lot more relaxing. OK, it doesn't have to be all that neat. I'm a backyard mechanic, used to getting dirty. -- Ronin |
