file transfer from old pc to new one

any tips on how best to do this? my upgraded Win98 pc (now XP) has segmented
drive with seemingly duplicate files all over the place. needs a real tidy up
before transferring to new pc. are they really duplicate files or just
seperate paths to the same file?

What do you mean by segmented drive and seemingly duplicate files all over
the place? What files do you want to transfer?

One way to transfer files and settings is to use the (appropriately named)
Files and Settings Transfer Wizard or FAST for short. Here is a link on how
to use it: http://aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm
