Uninstall/install graphics driver

Could you help me with the steps necessary?

How do I uninstall? In safe mode? How do I install?

Thank you and Merry Xmas.

Re: Uninstall/install graphics driver

The normal procedure would be to go to Control Panel/add&remove
from there remove the old video drivers...if your changing Video Card you
also should go to MyComputer/Hardware/Device Manager and remove the old
video device....shut down and remove old card.....install new card
reboot
Let XP detect and install generic XP drivers
then install the new video drivers

Re: Uninstall/install graphics driver

Thanks

It is the same video card. Problem is there is no entry for it in
Add/Remove. So what do I do? Uninstall in Device Manager?

Thanks

Yes, but uninstall it in Safe Mode and uninstall any/all that are listed. Safe
Mode may show duplicates which can/may be corrupt so removal of any/all is necessary
since you wouldn't know which are corrupt.

Once removed reboot.

Yep, then XP will re-detect the hardware and install something vanilla
like SVGA driver, whence you can install the new version.

Only gotcha is that this WILL change the screen res to something like
800*600 , so your desktop icons/items will get re-arranged (in a heap,
top left) unless you have made a copy of the layout before, to restore
after.

Personally, while nVidia and ATI =recommend= that you completely
un-install the old ones and install the new ones (often needing several
reboots), I've found that the recent upgrades will install over the old
ones just fine (if not, system restore will normally get you back to
where you can do it the hard way). Try at own risk though.

I'd have more respect for them (the developers) if they didn't kick a
new set of drivers out every time a new game is released though .. I
guess the software development and testing cycles just can't keep up
with the evolution of hardware plus the weird ways games choose to use
the drivers.

Download Driver Cleaner Pro from this website http://www.drivercleaner.net/
Install and run DCP and select Matrox Graphics, click start and it will
delete any Matrox driver files when you reboot the computer, once rebooted
and back into XP cancel any prompt to install the drivers if asked. Install
latest Matrox drivers as instructed by Matrox, reboot PC when prompted and
you should be good to go.

Re: Uninstall/install graphics driver

Thank you very much

Infact, I found matrox has an uninstaller, but now that I downloaded it
cannot run it. First I thought it was because my WinZip disappeared (so I
downloaded a trial version) but still can't unpack the Matrox downloads.

help...
