Delay opening files...............

It takes 45 seconds for a file to open(any file.. excell, word, pictures
,videos ,music, etc.) if i try to open it from windows explorer. doent matter
if I double click it or right click & wait for dropdown menu. If I open the
program first ie; windows media player and select the file from its menu then
it opens instantaneously.I have a Gateway 507GR computer Intel Pentium 4
processor windows XP Home 2002 Service Pack 2
