clearing history of a windows search on your pc

I was searching my pc with windows explorer using search companion (I think
it's called that it's what you seach for files on your from the start up menu
or windows explorer).
I was searching for a password and typed most of the password which I had
remembered, but unfortunately it remembers previous searches so when someone
does a searchand types in the first letter of my password it lists amongst
other previous searches my password, which I do not want people to see. It
is the
search history of this (or all searches is ok too if I can simply delete
all) this search that I wish to delete or clear
because if someone uses the search facility on my pc now and they are
searching for something beginning with the same letter my password will be
shown as one of the previous searched for items.

RE: clearing history of a windows search on your pc

Open Notepad and copy and paste the following lines:

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru]

Click File - Save - type a name e.g. "ClearWindowSearchHistory.Reg". From
the "Save As Type" drop down menu choose "All files" and choose a location
where you want to save the file.

Goto the location where you have saved the file and double-click on it to
Merge it in the Windows Registry.

Open Windows Search and history of search will gone.

Hope this help, let us know!

RE: clearing history of a windows search on your pc

There are many utilities available on Net to do this task for you. But I will
suggest you to do this yourself instead of installing a new application for
just a small purpose.

You can use this alternative way. Just do it carefully that is all.

1. Click Start - Run - type REGEDIT and press enter key.
2. Here you have to expand to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\
3. if there are sub-folders click on them and check the entries in the right
side pane. You can see all the entries you have made in Windows Search.
Right-click on them and click Delete.

You can also download the Registry file and run it directly from the
following link, which will automatically delete the search history. Click on
the following link:

http://www.mindurbrain.zippyfreehost.com/

1. Click on "Clear Windows Search History" link.
2. You will be asked that either you want to "Save" the file or want to
"Run" it now.
3. You have the choice. If you want to clear the history for once then you
can click the RUN but in future you have to search for this problem again or
you can Save the file in a folder for future use as well.
4. Even if you click Save you will later be prompted to Run the file now.
Click on Run button.
5. You will be asked if you want to add the Registry Key. Click Yes.
6. A message will appear that Registry Entries has been made.

Now, you can check your Search Results.

Otherwise, here is the search result for utilities you can try:
Cleaning Windows Search History

Let us know, which one you choose.
