Problem with Files After Saving them From Internet to My Computer

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with windows XP Pro (SP3) and current
MS Security Updates installed. When I see informative information about
Vista usage and operations, I save these files to my current computer for
future use. I should note that I have NAV 2006, BoClean, SpywareBlaster,
Adaware SE Plus, and ZoneAlarm installed on my computer

Unfortunately I am seeing something not noted before when saving files from
the internet. The problem file icon is similar to the icon of io.sys and
msdos.sys files in the root directory of the windows XP Pro. The problem
files have either the .htm or mht extensions. These files cannot be moved,
deleted, edited or copied. If I double click on one of these files, nothing
happens. I have tried to change the names and extensions of these files,
but nothing happens. I should note that when I save these type of files
from the internet, in most cases I select "Single File" in the "Save As
Type" entry.

The only point of interest that I can think of, is that at the end of the
day before shutting down the computer, I use PurgeIE to clear temp folders.

Any suggestions/information about this problem would be very much
appreciated, Sam.
..

Re: Problem with Files After Saving them From Internet to My Computer

Not sure what you're asking but here are some tips to delete the icons:

These are the best apps for file deletion, all free.
(You can't delete a folder if you have it opened)

Unlocker 1.8.7 237 KB
Info: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
Download: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/unlocker1.8.7.exe

KillBox 90 KB
Info: http://www.killbox.net/
Download: http://www.killbox.net/downloads/KillBox.exe

FileASSASSIN 1.06 163 KB
Info: http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php
Download: http://www.malwarebytes.org/fa-setup.exe

DelinvFile - Delete Invalid Files and Folders
Info: http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm
Download: http://www.purgeie.com/dl/divfinst.exe

This is a trick to delete an undeletable file by restoring a file over it with a file
created with the same name using a drive imaging program.

Instructions:

1. Create a text file and write in it a couple of letters.
2. Save that file in your root drive (C: for example) with the
same exact name and extension as the file you want to delete.
3. Now make a backup your new file (I used Acronis True Image).
4. Open your backup program and restore the file you created to
the folder where the undeletable file is, overwriting it.
4. Now you can delete it!
5. Run chkdsk

Re: Problem with Files After Saving them From Internet to My Computer - Thanks - Problem solved

ju.c, finally solved the problem. It appears that these file names were too
long. I was not able to move the file themselves directly, but was able to
move the folder containing these unusual files to the computer desktop, and
then was able to decrease the name size and this fixed the problem. Thanks
again for you help, Sam.
