| Apps running at startup How can I tell what apps/services are running at startup? When my Windows XP SP3 system boots up, the CPU usage is pegged at 100% for about 3-5 minutes. When I look under Processes in Task Mnanager, I see the process svchost.exe but it is my understanding this is just a process shell for some DLL that it does not specifically identify. I checked the startup folder for all users (C:\Documents and Settings\dave\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) and the only file in this folder is desktop.ini. How can I tell what app or service is actually chewing up my CPU at startup? |

| RE: Apps running at startup tAt the command prompt type: tasklist /svc AT the first column "Image name" svchost.exe, the opposite column "Services" are sevices running under it. Or you can use Process explorer with good instruction here: What is svchost.exe And Why Is It Running? http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...is-it-running/ -- Rey "Dave" wrote: > How can I tell what apps/services are running at startup? > > When my Windows XP SP3 system boots up, the CPU usage is pegged at 100% for > about 3-5 minutes. > > When I look under Processes in Task Mnanager, I see the process svchost.exe > but it is my understanding this is just a process shell for some DLL that it > does not specifically identify. > > I checked the startup folder for all users (C:\Documents and > Settings\dave\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) and the only file in this folder > is desktop.ini. > > How can I tell what app or service is actually chewing up my CPU at startup? > > > |

| Re: Apps running at startup Use this great little app: StartupRun 1.22 30 KB Freeware Download page: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/strun.html All Utilities: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/index.html quote/ The StartupRun utility displays the list of all applications that are loaded automatically when Windows boots. For each application, additional information is displayed (Product Name, File Version, Description, and Company Name), in order to allow you to easily identify the applications that are loaded at Windows startup. if StartupRun identifies a spyware or adware program that runs at startup, it automatically paints it in pink color. In addition, you are allowed to Edit, disable, enable and delete the selected startup entries. You can also save the list of startup items into a text or html files, and even add a new startup entry to the Registry. /quote ju.c "Plato" <|@|.|> wrote in message news:48ae8df8$0$4617$bb4e3ad8@newscene.com... > Dave wrote: > > How can I tell what apps/services are running at startup? > > When my Windows XP SP3 system boots up, the CPU usage is pegged at 100% for > about 3-5 minutes. > > When I look under Processes in Task Mnanager, I see the process svchost.exe > but it is my understanding this is just a process shell for some DLL that it > does not specifically identify. > > I checked the startup folder for all users (C:\Documents and > Settings\dave\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) and the only file in this folder > is desktop.ini. > > How can I tell what app or service is actually chewing up my CPU at startup? |
