Windows XP Desktop Icon Spacing

I was experimenting with Accessibility Options on my PC in order to
assist an visually impaired elderly couple down the street. I found
what I needed and fixed them up. I got everything on my PC back to
normal except the desktop icon spacing which is several times normal.
The icons are the proper but the spacing is huge. I tried adjusting
Desktop/Properties/Appearance/Advanced/Icons(vertical spacing) but that
change had no effect. I have obviously missed something in my attempt
to return my desktop to normal but have come to the end of my knowledge
and experience. Suggestions please. Thanks in advance.
