Alternatively, restore the data from your backup medium. If you haven't got one, do yourself a favour and read some of the backup-related sob stories in this newsgroup, e.g. this one: "Repair turned into reinstallment...all my files gone!!". You could be next in line. |

| RE: lost data Hi Gail You need to slave the old hard drive. Put it back into the machine attached to the same cable as the old one. On the back of the drive are the jumpers. These will be labeled as such. Set the jumpers to cable select or slave (follow the little diagram or google it) When you boot the old hard drive should be detected as a Primary slave drive and should appear in my computer with a drive letter of D(or similar). If it doesn't appear right click my computer and choose manage. Select storage and disk management(local). look for any new drive will probably be (D:) if your windows drive is (C:) and your CD/DVD Drive is (E:). Right click and choose import and the drive should become available. Any problems post a reply back on here and we will try something else |

| Re: lost data Until you connect it to the computer in some way, the information will remain inaccessible. You may install the old drive as slave and recover/transfer the data that way. Osmosis? Re-typing? Did you copy the data to CD? Or, in addition to your other posts, ff this is a laptop, get an USB enclosure, put the old drive in that, connect it to the laptop through a USB port and copy your data. Then you can clear off files from this old drive and use it as data backup. |
