To add to that Microsoft has stated at the launch of XP that it would issue a patch to permanently disable (remove) product activation once the operating system reaches its End Of Life cycle. Remains to be seen if they will honour that undertaking but I don't see why they wouldn't. In another five years from now (or whenever it reaches EOL) Windows XP will be the equivalent of Windows 95 today, the few last remaining pcs running it will be of little concern to Microsoft. John |

It woudln't surprise me if Windows Vista did the same thing at the same time, since MS has announced that Vista is their last OS. (About time, really... their non-OS, non-Office products seem to be pretty solid and less prone to attracting lawsuits, so the decision didn't really surprise me either). |

Also, courts would be less interested to pursue MS to honor their pledge!! |
