I have been researching this subject about a week ago, hope some of you have
a key to help.

0) The situation:
I have tried to log into windows usign all F8 options available, same result
always... flash blue screen for less than a second and then stops on a black
screen with active cursor, nothing works, except by suspending PC in that
case a dialog appears as usual.

1) How I get there:
Prevx soft warned me about Zlob trojan as bad then i used it to remove and
voile no more windows for me. File infected comctl32.dllm when using Internet
Explorer

2) Posible solutions i have already tried with no results (in order to save
you time)

a) repair installation from Windows XP CD, in these case the problem persist
but the first time, a blue screen is shown instead of the black.
b) expand comctl32.dll from Windows XP CD
c) check disk and repair
d) use Bart PE CD to scan for viruses, none found.

As far as i know it could be something with the registry

Please any help would be very appreciated. I dislike formatting, cause I
think we learn more by actually fixing.

From the F8 Menu, choose "Disable Automatic Restart on system Failure" then post
the contents of Blue Screen

I have alredy used that option, same result, black scren and active mouse
cursor

UPDATE:
I have changed trought registry the way windows log in, now it uses a
dialog box instead of welcome screen, but the problem is te same, now, shows
a dialog box showing "Windows is starting up..." Then "black screen..." again

Hello,

I am having the exact same problem.

Windows XP - boot into login screen - but will not show login window, only the light blue screen and a cursor.

Have tried Enable VGA and all safe modes - in safe mode just shows up with the same mode words up the top, apart from that the rest of the screen is blank and just the cursor remains.

I am in desperate need for a fix, PLEASE can anyone help!
