| stuttering mouse I have a user who has been complaining about his mouse stuttering. I have cleaned his ps2 port, changed mouse, updated driver, removed and reinstalled, everything I can think of, to no avial. Any ideas as to what might be causing this issue or how to remedy it? Thanks. |

| RE: stuttering mouse Have you tried a USB to PS2 adapter, thereby allowing you to plug the mouse into a USB port instead of the PS2 port? | Re: stuttering mouse Hi, The only instances I've run into with the "stuttering mouse" is when I've seen a computer overtaxed for a bit (i.e. something *very* CPU intensive that is running). The other instance was simply bad wiring in the mouse. I forget what gauge the wires are, but they are small, and subject to breakage. | RE: stuttering mouse It's actually a USB mouse using a ps2 adapter. I have tried connecting directly to the usb port. That worked for a while but he was then given a message about usb and the mouse quit working completely so we went back to the ps2 adapter. | Re: stuttering mouse You don't mention what kind of mouse this is, but if it is either an optical or a laser mouse you can get this behavior when using it on a shiney surface. Even some mouse pads are too shiney. Once I saw a user having this issue because his desk was wet from the 'sweat' of his glass of water, causing the surface to be shiney. I have simply taken the mouse and used it on my leg to test this theory out, as pants are not shiney (unless you just came from the disco). | Re: stuttering mouse Thanks Curt. I had thought of the overtaxed cpu as well. I brought up task manager and had him watch the performance monitor in the tray when the problem occured. He said that there wasn't a performance spike at the time. I changed his mouse to see if it might be wires, but that didn't help either. Who would have thought a mouse could be such a mystery. Thanks for your suggestion anyway. | Re: stuttering mouse We do use optical mice. I will change out his mouse pad to see if that helps. My thanks to all.
