Adding a new disk with active partition on it (OS is installed)

I have installed a new large disk in my system and reinstalled OS.

Now i want to add my old disk to system in one of the slots available( this
disk has os on its primary partition with drive letter as C:\) and its active
bits are not wiped.

My qustion is if i add this disk ,although my system will boot from new
disk but after booting and rescaning in disk MMC it will recognise other
disk( old one) with active partion as well , then how it well assign the
drive letter or resolve the conflict.

Any Idea suggestion, experince are most welcomed

There is no conflict. Active partitions are only relevant for the
primary master disk, which your old is obviously not. Drive
letters will be assigned from the first free letter upwards.

Change the jumpers on the old disk to Slave, plug it in to the slave
connection on the ribbon along with to the power supply and you're ready
to go. XP will automatically assign letters for the partitions on that
drive, including what used to be the C drive.

If drive letters change, when icons are clicked the associated
programs might not work etc. Does XP automatically adjust for this, or
is a drivemapper program (like PowerQuest) needed?

No, the programs on the old disk won't work, and tools such as
Drive Mapper are unlikely to work. On the other hand I don't
think that the OP wanted his programs from the old disk to work.
He's probably after the data.
