Windows Update - Bogus SIte or What.

I clicked on Windows Update from the Tools menu option in IE6, I got this
message:

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems
only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh
operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

Hmmm, the last time I checked eMachines doesn't run Mac OS (never has, never
will).

My machine says Windows XP when I start up, when I log on, when I click the
start menu yada yada yada. Has ever since I've had this machine - about 1
year.

Didn't know that Mac OS could be installed on Windows???

OK, so I'm being somewhat of a jaka$$, but what the heck is this all about?

And no, I have no viruses or other malware on my machine.

To be honest and frank, since upgrading to SP3, I've had problem after
problem after problem. Some not so bad, others annoying (like my new
anti-virus program had to be complete removed and replaced). Some are just
freakin weird, like the one above.

Is this MS's way of driving people to Vists???

Re: Windows Update - Bogus SIte or What.

It's likely maybe - cos you have another Firewall - besides the
Windows one - I get this if I set my firewall protection too high -
though it only seems to effect Microsoft update site - set at this
level it protects external sites from determining what your operating
system is, or what Browser your using...
and results in this msg, or similar. If you Do have another Firewall
-check it's settings.
If not ~ :) then it's something else! :) obviously.

Re: Windows Update - Bogus SIte or What.

Nope, no firewall in use at all (I do everything in my router).

Funny thing tho, if I type the URL into my browser, it works fine. Sooo, I
do an IE repair and the same thing. Also, if it were a firewall issue (which
is not the case because typing the URL is the same link as the Tool ->
Windows Update Menu Option; in other words, takes you to the same page) then
I would expect the same error to occur.

This (along with other annoyances) only started cropping up since SP3
install.

Something to live with I guess, not that one has a choice.

Cheers...

Right. But the most popular software for Macs was written by Microsoft.
