| dll has not been registered A friend's dell laptop with xp home wasn't booting up. There was a corrupted hive file and config file, which were "fixed" using recovery console. Now xp will boot up, but he first error message is: "Wireless Configuration: Notification dll has not been registered, program will not work correctly." If you click ok, you can enter xp, but any program you try to start returns error message: "Problem with Shortcut: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." So, it appears that after fixing Hive and config, the computer doesn't recognize any of the programs. Suggestions?? |

| Re: dll has not been registered Found the solution: turns out I had only completed half of the recovery. Still had to manually move the restore point config files back into the active config folder. That did the trick. (windows doc explains process: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/en-us) But, I've spent several hours doing this and could have reformatted and reinstalled xp twice by now.....the only consolation is that I can recover a few files that would have been lost (my friend wisely backs up her files regularly, so most are safely stored away).
