| SUSE LINUX SUCKS! MICROSOFT VISTA IS GOING TO KILL LINUX! Just tried Linux for the first and last time. How can they sell this bloated crap is beyond reason. Is Linux tested before they release it? None of my MP3 files would play. I could not used my DVD player either. I looked on the web and found that this is a common problem with some dubious solutions all of which involved many many updates to my system which is nice except that I could not update my system because the mechanism that updates the system, Zen, was broken as well! I gave up and Ghosted Windows xp back on to my system. If this is an example of Linux's finest to put in the ring against Microsoft's Vista, then Microsoft is going to absolutely destroy Linux. Linux needs less versions and more testing. |

| Re: WINDOPZ SUCKS! VISTA CRAPOLA IS GOING TO KILL MICOSHAFT! Asstroturfer Ken Johnson flatly wrote on behalf of micoshaft corporation: > J Don't listen to windopz zealot like 'Ken Johnson' or you too would become a dumbo like him. The fact of the matter is micoshaft have signalled they are abandoning windopz users by distributing SuSE Linux and seeking more Linux vendors to enter into partnership. Why is that? More than 75% of all new projects in major corporations is now open source and Linux orientated. At this rate there will be no demand for windopz products in 5 to 10 years time hence they paid $300 million+ to Novel to distribute their SuSE Linux. So you see, windopz sys admins are now being instructed all around the globe in major corporations to work with Linux sys admins and learn and adapt. The quickest way to learn is to boot up some free Linux liveCDs from here http://www.livecdlist.com and meet the power of Linux running off of CDs without having to install. e.g. knoppix, dsl, mepis etc.. Its quicker at networking and safer at browsing than any windopz OS and software. Secure your future by learning Linux now and avoid listening to windopz zealotic bums ranting anti-linux messages all day who get paid to rant in forums on behalf of micoshaft corporation. |

So after spending 30 minutes installing Linux, 30 minutes getting the updates, and 30 minutes trying in vain to find Windows Media Player - you decided "linux Sucks" and went back to Windows. You've been using Windows for what - 15-20 years? You've gotten help from 200-300 people over those 15 years? You had coworkers and support people holding your hand for 15 years? Then you give Linux 2 hours with absolutely no support from anyone and decide "Linux Sucks" I'm SO IMPRESSED by your EXPERT OPINION! > If this is an example of Linux's finest to put in the ring against > Microsoft's Vista, Just from your complete lack of information, I can only assume that you had absolutely NO ACTUAL EXPERIENCE USING DESKTOP LINUX! You don't even qualify as a "flatfish" posting. At least Flatfish provided valuable information, like Which unsupported hardware was used. > then Microsoft is going to absolutely destroy Linux. > Linux needs less versions and more testing. Before you are qualified to give ANY OPINION whatsoever, even in this group: You must use Linux as a Desktop machine at least 4 hours a day for 90 days. This does NOT include time spent trying to INSTALL or CONFIGURE Linux. You much PURCHASE a commercially supportetd version of Linux, such as SUSE 10.1 You much obtain SUPPORT from the provider, and at least one Linux users who can give you personal attention, or at least answer questions over the telephone. When you can demonstrate that you have met ALL of the qualifications, you can make a legitimate comparison between Linux and Windows (any version you like that is in actual GA). Keep in mind that you are addressing a group of users who HAVE used Linux EXTENSIVELY, and have ALSO used Windows versions from Windows 3.0 to Windows XP. Many of the readers and posters in COLA have ALSO used Vista. These are people who have opinions which I consider informed and qualified to make comparisons. Some think that Vista is quite nice, but they think that Windows XP is better than SUSE 10.1, even though the applications included in SUSE 10.1 for $60 would cost nearly $6,000 to legally aquire and license for Windows XP if one purchased the Microsoft counterparts. We have way too many people who are willing to compare a Windows machine loaded with $3000 worth of software to a Linux "live-CD" that they downloaded from some anonymous mirror site. We have way too many people who are willing to compare 2-10 hours of Linux experience with 30,000 hours of Windows experience and offer their "EXPERT OPINION". As for myself, I have nearly 40,000 hours of experience with Windows (more than I'd like), and around 40,000 hours of UNIX and Linux experience. I can tell you right now that in terms of the total overall blend of power, flexibility, security, stability, reliability, performance, TCO, and ROI, Linux is vastly superior to Windows XP. Most companies are reporting a MINIMUM savings of 70% and many are reporting ACTUAL savings as high as 95% compared to Windows in comparable environments. Keep in mind that these savings come from the COMBINATION of all of the advantages described above. Microsoft has some carefully doctored benchmarks based on hypothetical assumptions which show a "Dragster" version of Windows beating Linux in a benchmark published 5 years ago, when it was Windows NT 4.0 with SP 4 against Red Hat with a Linux 1.2 kernel in a special configuration involving 4 processors, 4 ethernets, and for SCSI drives connected to 4 separate SCSI controllers, using test data in exact multiples of 4096 kbytes (to optimize Linux clusters). And of course, there is the TCO comparison in which a company who had refused to hire anyone who even had Linux on their resume, and fired anyone who tried to install Linux on a workstation, and then estimated their costs based on full retraining of each employee in courses costing $6,000 in tuition that would be taken during normal working hours by workers who never work overtime. Talk about a rigged benchmark!! Ironically, most companies are now only interested in new employees who have BOTH Linux and Windows on their resume. I would suggest you prepare for the day when not having both could mean mandatory retirement. Rex |
