how do i resize images to fit desktop background

**i posted this in the wrong forum earlier so i'm posting here also. sorry.**
i can't seem to figure out how to resize an image to use as a desktop
background so that i dont get a screen full of several images of one picture
rather than filling the screen with the single image itself. does this make
sense? i assume it has to do with an image being smaller than 800x600 but i
cant figure out how to change it so that it is that size. thanks.

I personally would use photoshop to resize the photo to my screen
resolution size and 72 dpi.

But there are a ton of editing programs that can resize images.
Even http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm is freeware and may
suit you.

Look for photo editor, resizer, etc in google.
Sometimes if you bought a digital camera, they also come with same basic
tools to do this.

Right Click the desktop > properties > desktop tab > browse > pick one, it
will come up as a proper wallpaper.
