Control Panel very slow to open/respond

I am currently running Windows XP Pro SP2 with every update installed and
recently I have noticed that it's taking a while to get into Control Panel.
It’s also taking a while to switch between category and classic view. I have
defragged the hard drive, run CCleaner, Ad aware, Dr BOTT and AVG nothing has
yet fixed the problem. Everything else is fine, so its definitely a problem
relating to the Control Panel.

System spec is:
Pentium 4 3.2GHz
1GB Memory (2 x 512MB)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 256MB PCIe
250GB Maxtor 7200rpm hard drive
Windows XP Pro SP2

Does anyone have any ideas?

Chris

You may check what is "loaded" at statup with msconfig. You may check
programs and non-microsoft services. May be is something you don't need there.

Re: Control Panel very slow to open/respond

Get Tweakui
In Control panel section, try disabling all the items then checking them one by
one and going to COntrol panel to see if the problem is because of a applet

RE: Control Panel very slow to open/respond

Hi Chris,

You may want to try one more scan. You can find this at windows. Download
the "Malicious Software and Removal Tool" and run to see if you have any
applications that might be runnng interference. This is an easy and free tool
to use and is updated monthly at no cost. It is not ment to replace your
virus scan but I have found it to be effective.

Fixed it. It was a soundcard software cpl file that was causding the
problem. using TweakUI I disabled the cpl and everythign went back to
normal. went online downloaded the latest drivers/software re-installed and
now contorl panel is loading much faster. Thanks for all you suggestion.
