Wireless network card not working

I have an IBM Thinkpad with a Linksys WPC54G R4 wireless card which has SP3
installed. The wireless card is not working when trying to connect to a
wireless access point here. I can however, connect to an open access point
next door. The WAP requires WPA2. I'm entering the correct information to
connect, but cannot enter the encrytion key and therefore can't connect.

I am trying to uninstall SP3, but now it's telling me access denied, I
cannot do a system restore and that point doesn't exist anymore.

I am assuming a reinstall of SP3 is in order, but I am concerned that the
card and WPA2 is either not supported or can't be used,

Please advise

TIA

Re: Wireless network card not working

Did you install WinXP SP3 via Windows Update or manually?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were ANY of these applications running in the background when you
installed SP3 (and/or SP2)?

I don't think WPC54G supports WPA2.

I bet their security isn't WPA2.

Whose WAP? Yours or neighbors?

Perhaps SP3 has nothing to do with your wireless connection problem.

Check at linksys.com site to be 100% sure that your card supports WPA2. I
doubt it does.

Re: Wireless network card not working

Obviously the network next door is open, That is not MY problem. I'd like to
connect to my own network which is WPA 2 PK enabled.

I know the vendor supports wpa2 with this card, but it appears from some
extensive googling, that this is a problem with others and resolution seems
hit and miss. What I do know is that SP2 works and SP3, it doesn't. Nothing
else has been added since.

Re: Wireless network card not working

I had this same problem with my T41 after installing SP3. I solved it by disabling both the built in wireless adapter and the ethernet adapter. My card is a version 3.1.
