Microsoft Updates

Trying to update XP but keep getting msg's that I need to "Register or
reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)". So I click on continue and it
keeps coming back up. Same msg. What do I do now so I can get my updates. SP2
is installed and checked for current version. I also ran Diagnostics and it
checked out fine. HELP!!
