permissions fiasco

I originally posted this on someone else's question thread, but I thought I'd
repost it on a fresh thread, so it's not 4 or 5 pages back. anyway, my
problem is with permissions in windows xp. I know I need to get to the
security tab in the properties window to edit them, and every place I look
for an answer (including the other thread) says I need to go to the view tab
in the folder options window and uncheck "Use simple file sharing."

I'm trying to do this, but I don't seem to have a "Use Simple
File Sharing" box in the view tab of my folder options box.

I wonder if it's because I messed up my permissions so thoroughly.

See, I'm running a dual boot with XP home and Vista buisiness (64-bit) and I
foolishly changed the ownership of the "Documents and Settings" folder on the
XP Drive to my Vista Profile, and now of course I can't get into my XP
profile.

I created a new account to try to change permissions back, but as I said,
the box I need to uncheck isn't even visible.

Any Ideas?

Windows XP Home - you only can do certain things from the actual
administrator account, which you can only get to using Safe Mode.

Have a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307874#3
Right underneath the introduction it says:
"Note: You cannot turn off simple file sharing in Microsoft Windows
XP Home Edition."

To restore access to your folder, you may need to seize ownership
of it. AFAIK, you can do this under WinXP Home. Click Start / Run,
then look for help on "Ownership" to see how it's done.
