How was Windows XP re-installed? If it was re-installed from the Windows XP recovery partition on the hard drive or from a recovery cdrom, then verify that wireless has been enabled in bios setup. If this does not resolve the problem, then locate and/or download the wireless modem drivers and install. OTOH, if Windows XP was re-installed from its own cdrom, then make sure that all of the required drivers have been installed from the utility cdrom that came with the laptop. |

No one can see your laptop so tell us what you've done and/or what error message you see (if any) > I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and my wireless modem is Netgear Is your wireless network secured? There've been some update to Windows XP since SP2 was released for WPA2 and other such stuff. SP3 has all of these updates and would likely be a better bet for your Wi-Fi woes. - Thee Chicago Wolf |

After you finished installing Windows XP, did you install the latest drivers for your laptop's hardware devices? Go to Control Panel and double click the System icon. Click on the Hardware tab. On the Hardware page, hit the Device Manager button. In Device Manager, look for items with yellow exclamation points next to them. You need to install drivers for these devices so they'll work properly. You can obtain the latest drivers from this Dell web site. Dell Drivers and Downloads http://support.dell.com/support/down...=us&l=en&s=gen The easiest way to find the correct drivers is by entering your laptop's service tag. Look on the bottom of your laptop for a sticker with a bar code and seven alphanumeric characters. If you can't find the service tag, you'll have to pick through the drivers listed here; http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid= If after installing the correct drivers for your laptop's wireless networking adapter you still can't establish a connection, you might want to post your question to the Windows XP Networking and the Web newsgroup. | Re: Wireless Internet Connection From your reply to other poster, I get the feeling that your wireless NIC driver isn't installed yet so it's not functioning. First thing you must do is to use another computer to get the driver from dell site (someone already posted this, follow the link). Install the driver and restart your notebook (if necessary). You can then easily join your wireless network.
