How to display long file names (filename) on the desktop?

There was a previous message on this back in 2004, but I tried the
solution suggested there (using Display...->Advanced to space out
icons and decrease text size and whatnot) and it didn't work. That is,
the smaller text size was able to fit more text in, but at a font size
of '6', it was not legible.

Is there a way to do this?

There doesn't seem to be a particular pattern to how many characters
in the filename get shown. Sometimes it's 13, sometimes it's 30, but
mostly 30. Some difference between .pdf and .doc files, but again, no
pattern.

Re: How to display long file names (filename) on the desktop?

Hi Peter,

Go to Start/Run: Regedit

Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\FileSystem

In the right pane, verify that the value of NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation is
set to 0.
