SP3 Installation Will Not Finish

Hi,

I downloaded the final version of SP3 from the MajorGeeks today and
attempted to install it on XP Pro SP2.

The install wizard got to about 67% (per the fuel bar) and would go no
further. At that point it was in the ""Finishing" mode and says it is
"Running processes after install".

I let it continue for nearly five hours because it was not frozen although
the cpu useage was mostly 1-2% and the HD light showed some signs of life.

Prior to starting the installation, I disconnected from the internet, killed
all TSRs and shut down Norton.

I could not run the SP3 file as administrator because I did not put in a
password when I installed XP but to use the "run as" feature it will not
accept a blank space.

There were no error messages.

Any ideas on how I can get this patch installed would be appreciated.

Mike

Perform a clean boot and try again.

Re: SP3 Installation Will Not Finish

Thank you very much Colin. I took your advice and installed SP3 in ten
minutes!

I will remember this trick.

Re: SP3 Installation Will Not Finish

I would like to add my thanks, too, Colin. Although I'm in no rush to
install SP3 (I'll wait another week or so), I will definitely do it
using the clean boot method. Thanks again!
