User accounts logging off automatically

On windows XP home edition I have two user accounts with amministator
rights. I installed the AVG antivirus free edition, but after I
restarted the computer I can’t load anymore the settings of either the
accounts.

When the computer is started, a window appears asking for user and
password. I input the user and password and windows starts loading the
uaer settings. Immediately after it logs off from the account without
giving me the time to do anything.

I tried running windows in safe mode and I have exactly the same
problem. What to do?

Thank you

Kind Regards,
Otello

It appears that the file "userinit.exe" was damaged and that AVG
renamed or removed it. Your best bet would be to check the
AVG FAQ pages - there is probably a recipe there to fix this
problem. Post again if unsuccessful.
