| memory stick 'crash' I've been having problems on and off with my Sony MS PRO magicGate that it crashes whenever I try to download from it through My Computer. I get different error messages depending on my actions. 1.When I try to download a folder I get this - copy starts then gets suck 1/2 way and crashes prompting this error message: "the volume for a file has been exernally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid" - when if I copy them individually - assuming they are less than 20MBs - it will copy just fine. 2. When I copy several files 'as a group' some do download then gets stuck on one. I see "Cannot copy "FILE" :the parameter is incorrect" . 3.When I copy a large individual file (usually 11 MB's and over) I get an error message (which I cannot reproduce now). When it 'crashes' I have to unplug then plug it back in to see it in 'my computer'. I assigned the drive letter "S:\" , the partition is FAT (flash drive), 1 gig capacity, using XP SP2 with 2x USB 2.0 PCI express cards. The weird thing is that "S" drive works absolutely fine when mounted in a folder (like; c:\sony stick). I don't see a need for mounting it as it creates more clutter so I want it working proper, I've tested my camera and memory card & reader on other computers - even a Mac - and works fine. Whats wrong here? FYI I also get I/O errors on a USB HDD (250 GB western digital) on occasion - Ive used "failure check" tools to check all computer drives and nothing is close to conking out. Is this a Mobo thing? Thanks for reading, even if you can't help... -- Brandon Dub., TO canada, Shell ''explorer'' |
