Outlook Express

Using Outlook Express exclusively for newsgroups.
I download maximum 1000 headers at time per newsgroup.
Today I noticed in my ISP provider's news servers is downloading 1000
headers, even if I've downloaded those the day before. Now I have dual
entry headers (duplicates) of same date, time, originator, and so forth.
What gives?
Only thing different that yesterday was updating Net Framework version 1 via
windows update.

How about a tax to support any military conflict/police action over 3 months
old?

An actual war, we can do what's been done in the past.

Re: Outlook Express

I read something about a recent usenet merger or buyout affecting GigaNews
and Supernews customers, which might be involved here, since I noticed
something similar today, too, using Earthlink. So I don't think it was
your .Net Framework. :-)

Re: Outlook Express

Chances are this was caused by an issue on the newsserver's end.

[Accessing the MS newsgroups in Outlook Express Newsreader:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...oupsetup.mspx]

That being said, short of deleting the news account, closing/reopening OE,
and then resubscribing...

Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the default Main
Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named Identity (File >
Identities > Add new identity). Assuming all is well, (1) compact all
folders in the old identity, (2) import messages from the old identity into
the new one [Don't even bother attempting to import newsgroup or Hotmail
messages], and then (3) delete the old one (File > Identities > Manage
Identities).

To avoid such corruption in future:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

Why ask HERE? Do you see OE in this groups title? NO.

Ask elsewhere
