Network Shares Issue

The computer is on XPSP2 and is a member of a domain. At random times it will
not open a subdirectory within a network share. This only happens on this
machines and at random times. There are no entries in Event Viewer nor are
any errors returned through Explorer.

So here is basically what happens. Say I want to get to R:\My
Dept\Files\Whatever

I open R:\My Dept with no issues, but then when I double click on Files,
Explorer will flash to the Files dorectory then go back to the My Dept
directory. I have also tried entering the full path in the address bar and
get the same result. This isn't limited to one directory either, when this
happens it affects all of the network directories. But again, only on this
computer and it is random when it happens.

Anyone have an idea on what may cause this?

Re: Network Shares Issue

What is the box that the share is on? Is it a Windows OS?

Re: Network Shares Issue

We used to have that same problem on a NAS box that was running Linux. The
solution turned out to be adding a static entry in WINS. But your situation
is a little different; it's only 1 PC and, it only happens some of the time.
Have you tested to see if it's profile-specific? By either trying it logged
in as a different user or deleting that user's profile and the logging back
in to recreate it?
Also, check the TCPIP properties on the NIC and check the settings on the
WINS tab (under Advanced settings) to make sure it's the same as all other
PC's.
