| Symantec Live Update and Live Reg I am running XP Home SP2. In the Control Panes there is an icon for Symantec Liver Update and in the Add /Remove Programs list there are entries for Live Update as well as Live Reg. I have, to my knowledge, no Symantec products left on my machine -- I replaced all of them a long time ago with other programs. Can I safely remove the icon from Control Panes and remove Live Update and Live Reg using Add Remove Programs? |

Yes. Even if you know for sure that you have no Symantec products installed, when you go to uninstall Live Update it will tell you that you do and are you sure. In all the years uninstalling Symantec's garbage products, I've always run into this behavior with Live Update. So I mention this so you won't be surprised by this stupid behavior. AFAIK uninstalling Symantec products does not automatically uninstall LiveUpdate. You'll have to manually uninstall LiveUpdate. > Can I safely remove the icon from Control Panes and remove Live Update and > Live Reg using Add Remove Programs? If you don't need it any longer, why not? |

Symantec/Norton is the barnacle of the software world and is harder to evict than your mother-in-law. After using Symantec's sooper-sekret removal tool (from their website), you'll probably have to manually scrub the registry. Next you'll probably have to scan your hard drive for residual folders. Good luck. |
