| OT: Intel vs AMD Hello PC box builders :-) I rarely play with benchmarking software, am aware of the big range of factors which can affect them but, just for fun I spent a few minutes installing and running ""Hot CPU Tester v4.0 Lite's "benchmark."" ...on 2 x XP Home (stand alone) PC's. On my main XP Home PC, (Asrock Conrow 865pe/D935, 2x 512mb Crucial, Nvidia 6200 AGP card, 2 x SATA150 hd's), and the other one - an Asrock Aliven56G/VSTA/M/ASR - Athlon64 2.4ghz/512mb L2cache/2 x 512mb ddr667/{166mhz on board I think}, 6150se chipset/onboard graphics, ....and I have got the MS KB896296 appplied on the Intel PC, anyhooo ! Benchmark Intel/D935 2x3.2ghz cpu = 6907 Benchmark for Athlon 64 cpu single core = 8449 ....before I get told to tidy Intel up !!!!! I do keep Intel really tidy, ....ProcessExplorer reveals very little running on it, most unnecessary services switched off, very little being loded at startup, ..and in run= in registry etc ....and I do NOT have Norton in either of them, ...no malware in either of them. ...very similar internet security software in both machines. ....so is it that Intel performance is s**t ! , or am I just seeing a big difference in motherboard chipsets i.e. old Intel 865PE vs. a Nvidia motherboard chipset ? Comment appreciated :-) regards, Richard |

Was the Benchmark software you ran able to take advantage of the Dual Cores/Proecessors you seem to have on the Intel system? How does your 'benchmark' compare to others 'benchmark' using the same tool - or does this tool have someplace where you can even do that? It would be better if you compared your result to others with similar systems, so you would know if your Intel is performing badly because of some other factor. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

| Re: Intel vs AMD Thank you Shenan, Twas an old benchmarking prog. ...probably doesn't know anything about dual core cpu's ! I should perhaps have said, of course, "am aware of lots but, far from all..." of the things that can affect benchmarking software. ....I think I'll flatten the Intel when I've got tons of time and install it from scratch, probably quicker than trying to locate what's slowing it down. I should have kept a closer eye on it over time, and application software installs/uninstalls, system changes etc. regards, Richard "Shenan Stanley" <newshelper******.com> wrote in message news:u6nPVVYcIHA.3400@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > RJK wrote: >> Hello PC box builders :-) >> >> I rarely play with benchmarking software, am aware of the big range >> of factors which can affect them but, just for fun I spent a few >> minutes installing and running ""Hot CPU Tester v4.0 Lite's >> "benchmark."" ...on 2 x XP Home (stand alone) PC's. >> On my main XP Home PC, (Asrock Conrow 865pe/D935, 2x 512mb >> Crucial, Nvidia 6200 AGP card, 2 x SATA150 hd's), >> and the other one - an Asrock Aliven56G/VSTA/M/ASR - Athlon64 >> 2.4ghz/512mb L2cache/2 x 512mb ddr667/{166mhz on board I think}, >> 6150se chipset/onboard graphics, >> ...and I have got the MS KB896296 appplied on the Intel PC, >> >> anyhooo ! >> Benchmark Intel/D935 2x3.2ghz cpu = 6907 >> Benchmark for Athlon 64 cpu single core = 8449 >> >> ...before I get told to tidy Intel up !!!!!
