| Hotmail messes up my Outlook Express In WindowsXP I use Outlook Express 6.0 with IE7.0. I access my own hotmail account via Outlook Express and that works fine. However, yesterday one of my children used my computer to access her Hotmail account, using IE7. Since then I get an error message that MAPISTUB.DLL is damaged and needs to be replaced. This happened before (with same reason) just before I changed the motherboard in my computer. As I had to re-install all software, I 'solved' the problem. Just replacing Mapistub.dll doesn't work unfortunately. Who can help solve this problem? Best regards, Atoznl |

Either it is a coincidence or else you got hit by a virus or by malware. Use System Restore to return Windows to its state of two days ago. If this does not fix it, re-install IE7 - this will re-install OE as well. |

| Re: Hotmail messes up my Outlook Express Hi Pa Bear, In IE OE was already set as default. Set Program Access and Defaults: OE was set already as default In Registry, OE was correct, and set as default Mailto was set to OE already and path was correct Re-registered OE.msimn.exe Removed Outlook from system (was present indeed) Problem remains, unfortunately. I'm not a computer tech by any means so I don't have an answer for you but I don't quite understand why your using Outlook to access Hotmail? In my view Outlook is a mess and I stay away from it although I realize some people find it useful. I just logon to Hotmail directly from IE7 and have no problems. Robert --- REPLY SEPARATOR --- (Only required because above poster used QUOTED-PRINTABLE format.) Do not use quoted-printable format. * Not all NNTP clients handle quoted-printable format. * Quoting gets mangled, especially for replies. * No clear delineation between content for poster and respondent. From poster using Google Groups to post to newsgroups. Uh huh. Guess this Google Grouper doesn't want to have availability of their e-mails when access to the mail host is unusable (i.e., unreachable or unresponsive host), or to organize their e-mails using rules that far exceed the crap rule set available in a webmail-for-dummies interface, or to employ anti-spam filtering far superior than what is available by the e-mail provider. For some users, the webmail-for-dummies interface is all they will ever need. Actually it is about all they can handle. For other users, the webmail interface is like trying to use an Etch-A-Sketch to replace canvass and paint. |

Did you run "sfc /scannow"? |

Because what you downloaded might not be the correct version for the OS that you are using. SFC will check if the version of the file belongs to that OS and has not been altered; if not, you will need the install media for the OS to retrieve the original file copy from there (and then follow with a Windows Update just in case a service pack, update, or patch replaced that file). "downloaded" does not say from WHERE you downloaded the file (I didn't realize that Microsoft provides individual downloads of all files for the operating systems which would probably result in someone yanking all of them to create a pirated copy), or that you got the version of the file for your particular OS version. |
