| How to recover recently deleted files Hi All, Sorry for the Blast. My desktop was suddemly cleaned up, i had many important project files on the desktop which i was planning to move to another drive after completion of my work on some module. Does windows allow to recover the files or do we have some free utility which can recover files. i would really appreciate if somebody can help me out, as the files were so important to me. -- kripesh |

| Re: How to recover recently deleted files I thought that desktop cleanup only removed shortcuts. I uncheck it in any case. Anything in the Recycle Bin? There are a number of file recovery programs on the internet, some free. A Google search on "file recovery" brings up such entries as: http://www.undelete-all.com/recover-files/ "kripesh" <kripesh@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:57DE5E0D-23A2-4A7E-8A82-C755AEC18352@microsoft.com... > Hi All, > > Sorry for the Blast. > > > My desktop was suddemly cleaned up, i had many important project files on > the desktop which i was planning to move to another drive after completion > of > my work on some module. > > Does windows allow to recover the files or do we have some free utility > which can recover files. > > i would really appreciate if somebody can help me out, as the files were > so > important to me. > -- > kripesh |

| Re: How to recover recently deleted files i have tried one or two of these but these require the license keys to recover data, i see that data but cant recover because i need a license key. I dint have shortcuts on desktop, i had the whole project there, even there is nothing in recycle bin. If it is critical data, you should close down now, and use another machine to recover the data. Every time you write to the partition, you risk overwriting your lost data. If that happens ... |

| Re: How to recover recently deleted files License for what? The undelete software or Windows? If Windows, you can download and run keyfinder from http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml to recover that. If for an undelete program, use a free or shareware one that does not have a key. There are a lot on Cnet Downloads. First, check the recycle bin. If they aren't there, read on: "Deleting" a file doesn't actually delete it; it just marks the space as available to be used. There are third-party programs that can sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by the file is likely to become overwritten very quickly, and this makes the file unrecoverable. So your chances of successfully recovering this file are decent if you try recovering it immediately after deleting it, and rapidly go downhill from there. If you've been using the computer since then (for example to write this question and read this answer), your chances are probably very poor by now. But if the file is important enough, it's worth a try anyway. Stop using the computer in question immediately, if you haven't done so already. Download an undelete program (here's one: http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html but there are several others to choose from; do a Google search) on a friend's computer and bring it to yours on a floppy to try. If this fails, your only other recourse is to take the drive to a professional file recovery company. This kind of service is very expensive and may or may not work in your case. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

Sort of like my car hit a tree. Just how did the desktop come to be cleaned up? and since we all know that when mere mortals do this, the items are moved to the recycle bin, how come they aren't there. There's more to this mystery than we know. Dave Cohen |

I'll bet you institute a backup protocol after this little effort! Good Luck. |
