Norton's 2006 Anti Virus

Anyone having trouble with NAV 2006 slowing down their computer? Ever since
I installed it boot up takes several minutes, and the first 10 - 15 minutes
everything is bogged down.

What is the opinion of AVG free version I hear will be part of Vista?

Which runs and works better, Norton's, McAfee, or AVG?

I prefer Avast, www.avast.com, which works with Vista. It's free.

Re: Norton's 2006 Anti Virus

It's a commonly reported problem. I use Norton System Works 2006 (which
includes NAV) but selectively turn off any features I don't need.

The PC I'm using now has only a 933Mhz processor and it boots and run fine.
Since I never installed all the junk that comes with Norton System Works and
disabled some features that do not effect the basic AV functionality I'm OK.
NAV2007 may be a horse of a different color however.

Re: Norton's 2006 Anti Virus

I have worked with ALL the anti-virus programs and security suites. Over
the versions, Norton has become more of a problem than the viruses it is
suppose to protect you from. It is a memory hog. It has more startup
processes than any other program I have ever installed. And it has
issues with deleting viruses (it will detect them, but cannot heal them,
delete them, or vault them). Two antivirus programs that I install with
confidence and zero issues have been; AVG Free Edition, and Windows Live
One Care. I have been using Windows Live One Care since its beta days
and I have had no issues with it at all. Not only have I had success
with it, but it comes with 3 licensing rights to install it on up to 3
computers -- making it monetarily affordable for consumers with multiple
PCs in their home. I install AVG free edition on clients PCs who have no
or expired virus protection who do not wish to purchase antivirus
software. Yes, there are those out there. Hope that help. And please
understand, this is all my opinion and experience. You made the right
decision posting your question to a newsgroup and asking advice.
Research everything you read and you will be in a position to make an
informed decision.

Turn OFF automatic updates for both Norton and Windows.

Bootup takes a long time because both of these programs go to the web every
time you boot up.

At your convenience, run the updates after the computer is fully running.
