Got Asus notebook X51RL with DOS OS. Unfortunately, this notebook has Vista
drivers installed, not for Windows XP.
I want install Windows XP. Which exactly drivers I need? Should I reformat
harddrive, before installing drivers, or I can deinstall Vista drivers?
There is very weak support from notebook manufacturer side. Instead of
starting working immediatally, I need spend time and effort s for searching
drivers, etc, etc
Vista is useless for me, bad micro$oft software & bad approach.

You don't have DOS for an OS, that's for sure. You need to contact the
manufacturer to see if there are drivers for the specific hardware on
the laptop BEFORE doing anything else. Also check to see if using a
different OS will void your warranty. If so, you could create an image
of your current drive on an external drive and keep it safe in case you
need warranty work done.

The laptop should function properly. If not, why waste your time and
money? Take the time and let the manufacturer get it right. You paid
for it to work correctly.

True, and the HARDWARE probably does function properly, problem
is it's being crippled by a crappy OS (Vista).

I've sent a question to ASUS Technical Support, but have not received any
responce. In general, this is Asus Technical Support task to provide end
users with a clear instruction how to install windows XP and how to set
appropriate drivers for XP.

Be aware: A notebook designed for Vista may not EVER be able to work with
XP. The hardware drivers for video, networking, sound, etc. may be
specifically designed for Vista interaction and will not work with XP.
Further, drivers to match the hardware to XP may simply not exist.

Unless there are XP drivers for the hardware on your machine, the clear
instruction would be
"you can't". If there are, you would install XP from the CD, then install
the XP drivers, then
install all of the XP updates, and then install all of your programs. A
clean install of XP will wipe out
all of Vista; thus you are doing a bare metal install.

It might be easier just to learn how to use Vista.... It is yet another
version of Windows NT.

Vista uses much more system resources than Windows XP, more notebook power.
Why?
Advanced technologies must SAVE resources and Electric Power Consumption,
instead of increasing electric power consumption.
I absolutely no need all this Vista "bells and whistles" which is mainly m$
advertising, since XP can do all job that I need, and I am not willing to
pay micro$oft for it unthinking policy.

all sorts of malware. Another is to prevent said fools from trying to bother
the rest of the internet. Most spams, for example, are sent by fools who
don't even know they have a Trojan.

With a crappy OS. ALL machines but a very small
percentage come with the worthless-as-pond-scum Vista installed.

When I bought my Sharp Actius a while back, it came with
a choice of W2K or XP on first boot. That flexibility seems to
have gone away.

The real reason(s) for Vista? Ramming ever more DRM down our
throats, making M$ even richer, forcing users to buy new hardware
to make hardware mgfrs. richer too.

It's not about the user at all (but it is about our bank account).

Just to clarify: I did not buy this computer yet. I got it to try for some
days. I have taken it for few days to try. I should tell, that it goes
without OS, with DOS only, but I find there also drivers for Win XP. So,
things are not so bad as they seem.

I completely disagree with you in this point. I do not meant "collect" this
resources I save. I mean, that any advanced technologies (if it is REALLY
advanced) must keep and save resources instead of squander them (any
resources - electric, water, thermal, etc, etc) Just multiply superfluous
electric power on the number of personal computers in the world and you'll
get huge figures.. There is a places in the world where is no electricity at
all. Natural resources are limited, we should save them.
