| Problem with KB article 555540 - Setup strong password policy in Windows XP Please offer assistance on a registry mod for complex and 180 day PW expirations-http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555540 The way it is coded it doesd not seem to work. I entered the registry mod exactly as documented at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555540 Setup strong password policy in Windows XP And I got this [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies\Network] "MinPwdLen"=hex:80 "AlphanumPwds"=dword:00000001 "MaxPasswordAge"=hex:18,00 "PasswordExpiryWarning"=dword:00000000 But it does not require 8characters nor alphanumerics. It basically still allows what the local policy has defined. And before someone asks why I just dont use the local policy (or GPO), I am looking to distribute this to several hundred workstations which are connected basically by e-mail only. A registry mod would allow each user to receive, save and apply this in the least painfull way. Please offer any suggestions. |
