| Updates Not Being Installed. Hi All, I run Windows XP Pro. SP2. Five days ago I had a 80 gb hard drive installed to my system. for storage purposes because the 20gb Hard Drive I use became too small. However I have discovered that since then, when I try to download updates I receive a message "The following Updates were not installed and that I should check my update past updates and try again". I have tried that and have even tried switching off my firewall and popup blocker in order to get the required updates but to no avail. I am not very new to computers but have practically no IT experience. Although I have made searches to find a solution I am still without one. I shall appreciate it greatly if your community can assist me. Thanking you. stan lee -- Paralegal |

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 (Try it even if you did a clean, not repair, installation.) (Try it even if you performed some sort of restore - not repair install.) Can't figure that out? Get Dial-a-Fix: http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix Use its options to fix: - Windows Installer - Windows Update - All the Registration Center options. Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2" Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution". Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot will be needed. - Download/Install Windows Update v3. http://download.windowsupdate.com/Wi...gent30-x86.exe (You *may* need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce" right after the reboot - immediately after logging in.) - Download/Install the 927891 patch. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A - Reboot. - Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates. - Come back and let us know how things went! -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

| Re: Updates Not Being Installed. Hello Mr. Shernan stanley, The delay in replying is deeply regretted, reason being pressure of work. I have downloaded Dial-a-Fix. My problem is that I experienced difficulty in downloading Update v3 so I had to abort. I keep getting the message "Windows cannot show this page" with reasons for for that disability. So I am stuck a bit at the moment. I am suprised I got to this page because I got through after more than 7 times of trying. Further I am not IT savy and do not know about using command lines eg., switch to "/wuforce" How is that done? I will keep trying to get the Windows update v3, Meanwhile I shall appreciate if you can advise me on the us of "/wuforce. With many thanks. stan lee. -- Paralegal "stan lee" wrote: > Hi Colin, > > Thank you for the suggestion. | Re: Updates Not Being Installed. " /wuforce" is a command switch, not a switch to something. I didn't see the command but a command is followed by a space and then the switch. For example, in "sfc /scannow" "sfc" is the command and " /scannow" is the switch. <stan> wrote in message news:F92E82CF-0640-46E3-98AB-6FA390CEC702@microsoft.com... > Hello Mr. Shernan stanley, > > The delay in replying is deeply regretted, reason being pressure of work. > > I have downloaded Dial-a-Fix. | Re: Updates Not Being Installed. Hi All, Thank you all for you kind replies and in particular Mr. Stanley. I was able to to download all the necessary requirements to effect the repair to Windows Installer via Dial-a-Fix. However before beginning the exercise, I downloaded Belark Advisor and found that I had Windown Net Framework 2 installed but that the same was locked because It was corrupted a further check at the micorsoft website revealed the error and show3d the guide to uninstall the Net framework update and re-install again. I hav'ent done that yet but it's very simple. I returned to the Windows page and downloaded another optional update and it installed without any problem thus convincing me that the problem was restricted to the Net Framework update only. I thpought that I would write back to let you know of the development. Best regards, stan lee -- Paralegal "stan lee" wrote: > Hi Colin, > > Thank you for the suggestion.
