Hibernating problem

WXP SP2 refuses to come out of hibernation. Four other computers with
same set up, no problem.
Has been suggested that maybe a missing or corrupt file. Is there a way
to re-install WXP using the installation disk without loosing programs?
Many thanks for any suggestions...

Re: Hibernating problem

How it refuses (Error message, no activity, hang ) ?
Try to turn off hibernation and turning it on again.
To do this :
+Click Start - Run
+Type powercfg.cpl
+Click OK
+Go to Hibernate tab
+Uncheck the box "Enable Hibernation" > Click Apply
+Tick the box again > Hit OK

Re: Hibernating problem

Usually the video card drivers do cause issues with hibernation. Make sure
that the video card drivers are up to date on the problematic machine.

Re: Hibernating problem

Thanks Ayush,
Tried disabling Hibernation, cold reboot then enabled Hibernation.
Hibernated ok but on restart, black screen says:
The system could not be restarted from its previous location due to
read failure.
[ Detele resoration data and proceed to system boot menu ]
Pressing Enter to accept, it boots normally.

Re: Hibernating problem

Thanks Anando,
Am using a Nvidia GeForce2 with latest drivers.
Followed the troubleshooting link and in conclusion, I have had no
problems
hibernating for nearly a year so this is a new issue and computer
basically works
perfectly in every other way.

I will watch for further posts and hope someone can figure a solution.

Many thanks...

Re: Hibernating problem

One further comment, I have selected that the computer goes into Stand
By on
pressing the power button. The Stand By feature works prefectly.

Just having problems with coming out of Hibernation. :)

Re: Hibernating problem

How much RAM do you have ? There is a hotfix available for those who
have more than 1 GB.
