Re: Hard drive icon is a red "X"

You used PC Restore *because* of this problem or you used PC Restore and
ended up with this problem?

Re: Hard drive icon is a red "X"

The clock in Windows was set to 2007, I feel so stupid, I didn't even notice
it. M y friend called to tell me he changed it to 2008. Now Windows Update
works fine. I didn't look at the clock in BIOS, I'm sure its fine since
Windows Update works now. I am such a n00b. Thanks for all your help. I
really appreciate it! I'll try to be more observant in the future.

Re: Hard drive icon is a red "X"

I used PC Restore because Windows would not boot, and I could not run
recovery console off the XP Home CD because it would ask me for an
Administrator password, even though the Administrator password in the BIOS
was "not set". Apparently Dell would prefer I use the PC Restore. The PC
restore re-images the hard drive with an image created at the factory. So
the clock in Windows was set for the day the Windows was loaded at the
factory, June 2005. I synced the clock in Windows to time.windows.com, I
wonder why it didn't set the year to 2008? So, to answer your question, PC
Restore and my negligence caused this problem. Thanks for your help!
