| Monitor Does Not Turn ON After Restart/Reboot I have a desktop running Windows XP Home edition. For some reason after the computer went into Hibernate mode, and the monitor powered down, the monitor will no longer come back on. It will not come on if I turn it on or off, wiggle the mouse etc... When I restart the system, I get the initial boot screen and the Microsoft XP splash screen, then it immediately goes dark and powers down. Yet the system continues to ramp up. I've tried switching monitors, and had the same results. So there's something in Windows telling the monitors to stay in Hibernate and I have no idea how to fix this. This is my daughter's (5) computer and I would appreciate any help. |

| RE: Monitor Does Not Turn ON After Restart/Reboot Try booting in Safe Mode. Then go to Screensaver settings and check the Monitor Power button and set all settings to Never>reboot. | Re: Monitor Does Not Turn ON After Restart/Reboot What method are you using to exit hibernate mode? Reason for asking is that many confuse hibernate with standby. | Re: Monitor Does Not Turn ON After Restart/Reboot This particular computer requires the Power button to be pressed to exit hibernate. However, even if I do a hard shut down (kill the power), then restart, the situation below occurs. I've tried other options, such as the ESC and moving the mouse. Disconnecting power for more than 24 hours, etc... "Unknown" wrote: > What method are you using to exit hibernate mode? | RE: Monitor Does Not Turn ON After Restart/Reboot Thanks I will try this option this evening. I previously hadn't set the computer or monitor to hibernate, but the system is 8 years old, and something may have changed. I'd reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled the OS last fall, and hadn't had any issues until now. I'll post if this is successfull. Thanks. "Byte" wrote: > Try booting in Safe Mode. | Re: Monitor Does Not Turn ON After Restart/Reboot I know of one case where this problem was corrected by updating the video driver card from the manufacturers site. Check to see if you have latest driver. | RE: Monitor Does Not Turn ON After Restart/Reboot SUCCESS! I started in Safe Mode and changed the power settings, initially with no luck. Tried different combinations with no result. Finally, I checked the device driver for the monitor and updated the driver for the video card. This solved the problem and now boots up in Normal mode with full display. Thanks for your help. | Re: Monitor Does Not Turn ON After Restart/Reboot This worked. From SAFE MODE I was able to update the Video Card driver directly with Windows. System restarted and came up in Normal mode with full display. I'll still keep my power settings at NEVER shutting off, just in case. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. Keeps my Pentium 3 (yes that's right) computer going a bit longer for my daughter to use. Thanks.
