Cannot reinstall

Hi guys.
My computer has been playing up when I want to just reinstall WinXP
Pro.
Update starts fine, but after copying the necessary files on the
machine
it comes up with: The file an2knrmt.sys could not be found; the
system
closes down.

I tried this for a long time and every time it cooks up a different
file.
It could be ru38ptma.sys or ss3keknm.sys, anything really.

It's an obvious bug and I cannot get rid of it. No mention on MS site
either.
Who is prepared to give this some thought, please.
I'd be sooo happy. Thank you for reading this.

Although the problem you described could be due to a scratched or dirty
cd...
or even a flakey cdrom...
I suspect you might have a RAM problem

If your RAM is bad...then your original XP installation was probably OK

Also: You may also want to run your harddrive manufacturer's diagnostic.
All HD mfg's (that I know of) have a utility that can be downloaded free
