Re: Can not create a system restore point Manually

you can make them
via safemode as well.

but if you are also
having trouble with
your connection going
down, then there could
be other issues involved.

thus making a system restore
point will only preserve
the problems which wouldn't
be a smart thing to do;

unless you are planning to fix
what is ailing your windows
and the restore point you want
to make is for a temporary
safety measure to revert to.

RE: Can not create a system restore point Manually

I sent a email toMicrosoft Help and waiting for a reply before I will try to
go back to a othere date. I am scared of causing a major trouble if I do so.
I also for got to mention I have Norton 2007 Internet security. I know I have
to shut down part of Norton when I go back to a othere date to to a RESTORE.

Re: Can not create a system restore point Manually

I don't think System Restore can make a restore point in Safe Mode.
Volsnap.sys is not loaded in Safe Mode. You can only retore to a restore
point but I don't think you can make one.

Re: Can not create a system restore point Manually

thanks for your response,

i was boggled whether or not
to suggest and explain the
windows repair method that
might repair the ailing system
and automatically create a
restore point as well.

you are correct about that
limitation and your intuitive
and polite clarification is
sincerely appreciated.

Re: Can not create a system restore point Manually

I am aware of this site. I will wait till I hear from Microsoft up-date to
see if there was a problem in there Up-date. This has happened before with
them in a other computer and they admitted there was a problem. It took them
quite a while till we fixed it as othere people had the same problem with
that up-date.

Re: Can not create a system restore point Manually

HI all ,
just to let you know Microsoft Help has not replied after my last
email re trouble. Right now I can not go back to a other good restore date
previous to all these troubles. I have Norton 2007 and even with that shut
down I can not go to other date for a restore. I even tried to do a security
down load and all what happened my computer just hung up and did nothing with
the install. Just a bit of a bar showing installing and that was it. If I can
go back to a other date a I hope all will work.
Any IDEAS out there with system restore to a other date. I show nothing
shut off for system restore in my computer.

Re: Can not create a system restore point Manually

norton seems to contribute
to issues. i would go to the
norton website and uninstall
exactly as they say. then see
if the issue is resolved.

if the issue is resolved, then you might
check with norton to see how
to configure it's software to
accommodate your needs before
reinstalling it.

a word of caution, do not
uninstall norton via add/remove
programs.

go to norton and get the exact
procedure because it is a "highly
integrated" software.

Re: Can not create a system restore point Manually

Boot into Safe Mode and try running System Restore from there. Use a restore
point just before the update was installed.

Starting Windows XP in Safe Mode:

For Norton users.
