| Problems with downloading Hi Guys I'm experiencing problems with downloading files from the net. The problem is there with streaming videos and files in general (including MS Updates) . The download process starts ok and even starts downloading, but comes to a halt shortly after. With YouTube for example, you get the first 30 secs which buffer and play OK, but then it freezes. On the help pages of YouTube it suggest to clear temp files etc which I have done without any result. I have 100% established that there is nothing wrong with the cable modem, the WiFi or the signal as the very same setup seems to work OK with other laptops running XP. Also the problem presists whether one uses the WiFi or a direct ethernet port connection. There is no suspicious s/w installed. Avast antivirus, Zone alarm, CCleaner and Spybot, Quicktime (for I tunes) and Open Office installed. Have done a virus scan and Avast reports no virus. If more info is needed, I'll do my best to supply it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -- XP User |

| Re: Problems with downloading You might want to check/verify your Temp environment variables and the folders they point to. You'll find this in the "Advanced" (Tab) of the System Properties. Click the Environment Variables button. The profile specific settings will appear in the top-half of the window, the System level in the bottom. Most downloads queue up through the browser's temp folder and then transfer ( or run ) once downloaded or buffered. Cleaning "Temp" folders is best done for both System & User folders. Both should be cleaned just after a system has been booted. | Re: Problems with downloading Thanks for the quick response McCarty. Tried all you said, that is to go to the temp sub-folder under documents and settings, (although the system temp folder you mention is not in the doc & settings folder but in the main windows directory under the system folder) and deleted all tmp files. No luck I'm afraid. Any other ideas? (from anyone) -- XP User "R. McCarty" wrote: > You might want to check/verify your Temp environment variables and > the folders they point to. | Re: Problems with downloading Thanks for the help. I've finally managed to resolve the problem. Windows or IE7 not to blame. Problem lies with the belkin router which for some reason hangs shortly after it has started buffering video or downloading larger files above 2Mb. In touch with Belkin now -- XP User "R.
