That model appears to have a SATA drive. It's easy to check; open the
drive door and pull the drive out. If it has two rows of pins, it's EIDE,
if it doesn't, it's SATA. You will probably need access to a USB floppy
drive (about $20) if you need to add SATA drivers during setup. But first,
you have to be sure - you have to HAVE them - that XP drivers are available.

The only way to "downgrade" from Vista to XP is after first wiping the
drive. You may find it better to pull the drive and put in a new one, so
that you can easily go back to Vista should whatever reason you're wanting
XP be resolved, or should your downgrade fail, as it may if there are no XP
drivers available.

I'm not seeing your model on the Sony site, but the nearest one, the NR120E,
appears to be only available with Vista. And the Sony site does not offer
any XP drivers for it.

But, you *must* collect all the XP drivers, including motherboard and SATA
drivers, before beginning.

If this model is not avalable with XP, and if the SONY site does not offer
XP drivers, do *not* attempt to downgrade to XP. You will just wind up
with non-functional hardware, and I bet you'll find that even more
frustrating than Vista.

RE: Need help downgrading Vista-->XP

if you don't understand, then I suggest you take the pc to a educated repair
person and have them do it.

To identify the specific tech specs of your Vaio, Goto:
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/login...voe_en_GB_cons

Though initial brief browse indicates the NR range is indeed SATA drives.

This page has tutorials - Though I doubt you will grasp
any of it it, it took me just 30 seconds to find these two
links, what was so tricky about a search that you couldn't?
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/index...voe_en_GB_cons

Now try and explain exactly what you are doing when you say
you are "downgrading" to XP.
Do you have a valid and genuine XP installation disc?
Have you downloaded and saved all the XP compliant drivers for
the Sony?

A clean install of XP onto a formatted drive
(Note: As your Sony met the requirements for Vista, then XP
shouldn't be a problem):

Re: Need help downgrading Vista-->XP

you should consult with manufacturer on the feasibility of switching to XP and the availability of drivers.

Snipped annoyingly contrived and silly post from someone by nym of mikeyhsd.

Do you think that clever to post in html when many will have newsreaders configured
to block such content, and many newsreaders cannot display html anyway!

Re: Need help downgrading Vista-->XP

So you couldn't care less about your warranty or service contract, eh?
